Rationale for and purpose of the Programme/Course
There is a greater need to understand financial information, particularly the statement of financial position, statement of profit or loss and cash flow statement as companies strive to enhance value of the shareholders. Decisions made by senior managers without properly understanding the financial implications may lead to reduced profits (or even losses) and a reduction in shareholder value. The Scot Race Institution short course on basic finance and interpretation of financial statements will benefit a lot these senior staff members in having an appreciation of finance so as to make informed and prudent decisions.
By raising financial awareness, participants are better able to manage businesses’ revenues, costs, profits and cash. Participants will also be able to use their new financial knowledge to make more effective decisions. This training will provide basic financial principles and cover generic financial management tools necessary for decision making.
Exit-level outcomes and alignment to level descriptors
Participants who complete this course will be able to read financial statements, interpret the financial statements as well as analysis of financial ratios. Participants will also be able to make sound investment decisions based on capital budgeting techniques. In addition, the students should be able to apply corporate governance principles.
